HAMSTEROBICS AND HANDLING
HANDLING
When you first get your hamster home it is very frightened. This is because it has been taken away from its young friends. There is also a different smell which the hamster has to get used to. So when you do get the hamster home, leave it for a day to get settled in its new cage. The next day you should get a treat and hold it in your hand. Then if you can take off the cage top and hold your hand out to the hamster. The hamster will sniff around your hand for quite some time. In the quite unlikely event that the hamster bites you, try to stay still so not to alarm the hamster. It should get used to your hand and will learn that you are nice and that no harm will come to him. Then after a few minuites, try scooping it up and stroking it gently. Place it back in its cage after 10 minuites and keep giving it a lot of a ttention. It will get used to you. The important thing about handling it is not to be scared. If you are try little steps like talking to it behind its cage and then try.

Hamsters are wild animals and always will have that sort of instinct so you probably won't be able to teach your hamster to do tricks. But it will get used to your voice and probably its name. But if you look at the next section, you will be able to find out how to exercise them and keep them fit for the hamstalymics!

Excercise
Hamsters love their excercise and one of the best things to get them are running wheels for inside the cage. You can get them from almost all pet shops and can be very cheap. It is important to remember that the wheel must be something like the one below as others could be dangerous. Another good thing are balls. Hamsters love them although you must be careful not to leave them in there too long or they will get dehydrated. And you must also be careful not to step on them while you are walking around. balls are good for when you are cleaning the cage out as they keep your hamster out of trouble.
